Senior membership (over 55) within the Club currently totals some 90-100 men, with golfing abilities from single handicap players to those in the mid-20's.
We meet every Tuesday, ever optimistic of getting on top of this wonderfully frustrating game! We play 22 matches annually - April to September - on some great courses.
Enthusiasm is more important than a low handicap, so you will get a game. There are many club competitions especially for seniors.
The Senior's Committee organise a varied and interesting programme of events throughout the year specifically for this group of players, and chief amongst these are
Weekly Competition
Run throughout the year on Tuesday afternoons. This is usually a Stableford competition, either individual or 4 B.B.B. with partners and companions decided by drawing lots so that 'new' Seniors are quickly inducted into the Section.
Senior Friendly Matches
We play 22 matches against Senior Sections of other clubs, with the accent very firmly placed on 'Friendly'. These are 4 B.B.B. events and most teams consist of 16 players and ALL Seniors who wish to play in these matches have an equal opportunity of doing so. These matches are played April-September, with some away courses almost as delightful as our own.
Our most prestigious match of each season is, of course, the match against the Club's Ladies Team - always a highly enjoyable event!!!
Annual Competitions
At present these consist of the Senior Rose Bowl (Stableford); Bill Humphrey' Cup (Medal); Senior's Cup (Medal); and the Lincoln Cup (individual matchplay knockout) - plus a Senior Bogey Competition.
In addition to the above, there are a number of Senior White Tee events held throughout the summer months, usually on Tuesdays; an annual Senior's Day Out during which the Harris Trophy is played for, normally held in July; a competition and dinner on the day of the Senior A.G.M. and a Christmas Competition & Dinner in early December.
And finally, we run a Senior Open Day, which is an individual Stableford competition, open to Seniors from other Clubs as well as our own, which usually attracts some 150 entrants. In turn we receive invitations from many clubs in South Wales, the Midlands and the West of England to enter players in their Senior Open events.
We organise social events such as dances, dinners and away days, not to mention our annual battle with the "Ladies".
Come and join us, you'll be pleased that you did and you will recieve a very friendly welcome. Why not visit one Tuesday at 10:30am and see for yourself
Senior Winter League
This is a 4 B.B.B. competition played from November to March each year on a match play basis. Partners are decided by the drawing of lots each Tuesday.
Each player will receive 3 points for a win. 1 point for a half. No points for a loss.
At the end of the competition the players with the highest number of points will be the winner. In the events of ties for places, a play off takes place, usually a stroke play competition.
The overall winner and runners up receive trophies to keep, in addition the winner holds the Denions Winter League Trophy for One year.
