CAPTAINS DRIVE – IN After heavy rain all day on Saturday, the weather did not look promising for the Captains’ Drive-in, but good fortune was on the side of the two Captains, David Evans and Sue Edwards, and Sunday 30th March turned out to be a sunny day with clear blue skies. A good gathering of members turned out to see both the Club captain and the Ladies captain hit good drives up the middle of the 1st fairway and this “ceremonial drive in” now marks their year of office. The relief on the faces of both captains was evident after their drives and this signalled the start of a very enjoyable Texas scramble competition. Some very good scores were recorded but the team of Vice – captain Wayne Wadley, Annette Block, Elaine Stockwell and Jane Reid were the winners on a count-back, with a nett score of 31 for the twelve holes. The sweep to predict the combined distance of the “ ceremonial drives “ was won by Jane Reid. A very good lunch by Elaine Matthews and her staff was enjoyed by the playing members and their guests after the game, and both Captains thanked everyone present for their support. |
